Center for Grapevine Biotechnology

VGDP

Co-directors:  Dr. Laszlo Kovacs and Dr. Wenping Qiu

MISSION

To explore genetic resources and to identify health-promoting compounds in diverse grapevine species for securing the profitability and sustainability of the grape and wine industry and for improving human health.

GOALS

Identify key grapevine genes, including defense and stress-related genes, and those responsible for production of health-promoting compounds, thereby enabling the production of improved grape cultivars.

Develop biotechnological tools for in-depth functional analysis of grapevine genes and for characterization and prevention of major grapevine diseases.

Explore and identify health-promoting compounds in native grapevine species.

Provide a challenging academic environment for the training of graduate students in plant biotechnology.
