One:
Getting The Most From the Plants
A
good blueberry harvest actually begins with the health of the
bush. A healthy bush will produce a good harvest of fruit.
Practices such as mulching, irrigation, fertilization, insect and
disease management and weed management are very important in maintaining
bush health.
Pruning in particular
can affect harvest. Pruning can do two basic things. First
of all, by thinning out the flower buds and by favoring young healthy
vigorous wood a grower can promote large harvest of good-sized
fruit. Secondly,
by properly pruning you can position the fruiting zone of the blueberry
plant to promote easy harvest. You'll notice in the picture on the
right that the fruit on the bush is produced between my knees and my
neck, which is the easiest area for most folks to harvest blueberries.
